Tip 1: Prepare a bag with recital essentials. This bag should include your caboodle (which you have stocked using our handy caboodle checklist), costume accessories, all dance shoes, tights, any props, a cover-up and comfortable clothes and shoes to change into. Arrange them neatly and accessibly as you will likely be going into the bag multiple times.
Tip 2: Learn the order of the dances your child will perform. For those of you with children in multiple dances, by knowing the line-up you will be able to have the costumes and dance shoes organized. By organizing the costumes in the order they will be worn, quick changes will be much easier.
Tip 3: Stay relaxed, calm and have a helpful attitude. As dance teachers, we know and understand that the weeks leading up to the recital can be quite hectic. Therefore, we have put together the Recital Survivor Guide to help make your busy lives run a little smoother.
The atmosphere backstage can be very hectic, but staying calm will help your child stay relaxed and ease stage fright. Leave the stress to those in charge, but help out whenever needed, if you are able to. It may seem like chaos and that the show won't happen, but it always comes together in the end…We promise! Remember to have fun and enjoy it, it is your child's day to shine!! Tip 4: Take your child backstage when you arrive at the auditorium and leave them there as soon as they are settled. Make sure you attend to any restroom needs before departing but do not "hang around" unless your child is upset and needs you. There will be assigned volunteers as well as dance teachers to help run the backstage area and get the dancers on and off the stage.
Tip 5: Cheer for your child and all the dancers!! Hearty applause is appreciated by performers. Our dancers are born to entertain! We ask that you be a respectful audience, but applaud and cheer when you like something that you see! The louder you clap, the harder the dancers perform. ****Be advised ABSOLUTELY NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEOTAPING WILL BE ALLOWED DURING THE RECITAL PERFORMANCES****
